In 1958, a committee underneath the chairmanship with the Earl of Crawford and Balcarres was appointed by Harold Macmillan to analyze the condition of the house and make tips. From the committee's report there was some discussion of tearing down the setting up and developing an entirely new home but because the primary minister's household had come
